This Proverb says, “My son, fear the Lord and the King. Do not associate with those who are given to change. For their calamity will rise suddenly, and who knows the ruin that will come from both of them?”

There are many people who have believed in God and Jesus Christ for a while. However, later they may have turned away from their belief. This is because with belief in God comes accountability. When we believe in Jesus Christ we must also believe that we are accountable to God for our thoughts words and deeds. True belief must be validated by living according to God’s word. That is a difficult path in a world that is given over to sin.

As believers in Jesus Christ we may associate with other professed believers. Some of these professed believers may not be genuine or sincere in their belief. They may not be living according to God’s Word and may be a bad influence for other believers. As this Proverb says, we should not associate with those who are given to change from following God’s Word. We may also be tempted to turn away.

Those who turn away from following the Word of God are headed for destruction. We do not want to be with them when they are destroyed because we too may be destroyed. Realizing this should provide incentive and courage to disassociate with those who turn away from the Word of God.
