This Proverb says, “When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, and the hope of strong men perishes.” A wicked person is one who does not believe in God or life after death. They don’t believe in Heaven or Hell. Therefore, life on Earth is all that they expect to have.

As a result, those who don’t believe in an afterlife try to make the most of their life by gaining many material possessions. They are also afraid of dying, so they try to live as long as possible.

Unfortunately for the wicked, there is indeed an afterlife. Heaven and Hell exist, and all people will spend eternity in one of those places. The Bible says that the wicked will spend eternity in Hell where they will experience pain and misery forever.

On the other hand, those who God considers to be righteous believe the Word of God. Therefore, they know about Heaven and Hell. The righteous do not set their hearts on material wealth, and they do not fear death. Their expectation or hope is to spend eternity in Heaven. Indeed, the expectation of the righteous does not perish when they die.
