This Proverb says, “Discipline your son while there is hope, and do not desire his death.” The Bible says that as parents we are to love, cherish, guide and yes, discipline our children. Children are not reasoning adults, and they need to be taught how to live. When they do right we should praise them. When they do wrong we should discipline them. Sometimes that means we should physically discipline them with a spanking.
The Bible says, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” This means that a spanking, properly administered, is a good and healthy thing for a child. The spanking should be administered fairly. It should also be measured and administered without anger.
Parents used to give their children spankings. I know this from past experience. When I was a child in the 1950s my father gave me many spankings to discipline me and correct my behavior. These spankings worked in motivating me to do the right things.
Unfortunately, parents stopped physically disciplining their children. Many have followed the faulty guideline that says we must not spank our children. Rather, we should reason with them. This has led to much disobedience in children. They began to defy their parents and became selfish and unruly adults. Society has suffered in many ways because of this.
