This Proverb says, “Excellent speech is not fitting for a fool; Much less are lying lips to a Prince.”
Excellent speech is motivated and enabled by wisdom. A person must be wise to choose words of excellence that motivate and edify another person. Therefore, a person must believe in God to be able to speak in such a manner, because only God grants wisdom to a person.
The Bible says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.” Wisdom is gained in no other way. God guides those who believe in Him and live by His Word the ability to understand the knowledge they receive from God. God then enables them to the ability to apply their understanding with wisdom.
A fool, on the other hand, does not believe in God. Therefore, it is impossible for a fool to be wise. When a fool attempts to speak words of excellent, they fail miserably. Their attempts to speak wisely do not match their character. Others rightly deem them to be foolish.
In a similar vein, lying is not fitting for a person in a leadership position. They are held in high esteem because of their position. People under them expect them to be honest and honorable. A leader who lies to his followers will lose the respect of the people. Worse, they will cause instability and confusion.
Unfortunately, we are seeing more and more of these situations in the world today. The Bible says that this will increase until Jesus returns to rule the Earth. When Jesus returns He will restore Truth and Honor and rule with compassion and wisdom.
