This Proverb says, “Better is the poor who walk in his integrity, than he who is crooked though he be rich.” As this Proverb indicates it is better to be poor and honorable than to be rich and dishonest. It is not our wealth that defines us. Rather, it is our character. People may be envious of the wealthy people. However, their wealth doesn’t impress God.

God doesn’t value our status. Rather, He values a spirit that is dedicated to pleasing Him. He desires a character that leads a person down a path guided by God’s Word.

The Bible says that God will provide for our physical needs if we obey him. The Bible says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and the rest will be given to you.”  God’s provision for us may not make us wealthy. However, it will be enough. More importantly we will be able to enjoy what God provides for us. We will be content. The Bible also says, “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, you will be happy. It will be well with you.”

There are many rich people in the world who are not happy. They do not enjoy the things that they have accumulated. If they do not believe in God, or walk by God’s Word, their worldly possessions will be all that they have.  And It will all vanish when they die. Unfortunately, they will spend eternity in pain and misery.

Therefore we should first seek God in our lives and walk rightly before Him. We should be content with what God provides. God will then lead us to an eternity with Him in paradise.
