In these passages is the account of God leading Israel to victory over the Canaanites who had oppressed Israel for 20 years. God had allowed this oppression because Israel had again turned away from God.
After their victory, the prophetess, Deborah, and Barak, the new judge who led the fight, sang a song praising God. In the song was a reminder of the greatness of God and the good that God had done for Israel. It provided for Israel a renewed awareness and dedication to God.
Israel did well when they trusted in God. They did not do well when they moved away from God. So, it is with us today. Our lives are blessed when we obey God. Our lives are not blessed when we disobey God. It is a rather simple formula but not so easy to implement in our lives.
The Bible says that Satan is the spiritual ruler of this earth. Satan and his demons are constantly trying to pull people away from God. To fight this, we need to first be aware of it. Then, we need to rely on the Bible for guidance.
