In this daily Bible reading is the account of Daniel serving as one of King Darius’ three commissioners who managed the Persian kingdom. Daniel was a Jewish exile who God had blessed and favored.

Other Persian leaders were jealous of Daniel. So, they tricked King Darius into making an edict that no person could worship or petition any God or deity. They could only petition King Darius. Those who disobeyed this edict would be cast into the lions’ den.

Daniel continued to worship God, and was arrested for violating the King’s edict. Daniel was then to be cast into the lions’ den. King Darius was in anguish for he favored Daniel; but his edicts could not be changed according to Persian law.

Daniel was cast into the lions’ den but was not harmed, because God protected him. He was faithful to God and did not waver in his Faith, even in the face of certain death. Daniel faced the ultimate test of his Faith, to be killed for believing and trusting in God.

Daniel’s strong Faith did not occur instantaneously in his life. It was cultivated by trusting in God on a regular basis. We grow in Faith through being faithful to God and His Word on a regular basis. When we abide in the Word of God, the Bible, on a regular basis, it becomes a part of us.

The Bible says that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Reading the Bible daily will renew our minds and guide us in how to live. By so doing, our Faith in God will grow, so that we may one day, if necessary, be able to pass the ultimate test of Faith.
