This Proverb says, “This is the way of an adulterous woman: she eats and wipes her mouth, and says, “I have done no wrong.” The ‘adulterous woman’ in this Proverb provides an example of those who do not have a clear understanding of right and wrong. They do not identify sin as sin and see no wrong in what they are thinking, saying, or doing.
The Bible says that there are consequences for the sins we commit. For example, living sinfully results in poor health, sickness and injury. Many people are afflicted in this world because of the sins in their lives. They need motivation to turn away from sins. However, they must first identify the sins in their life as sins.
The Bible says that Jesus is the ‘great physician.’ He can and will heal people who are afflicted because of their sinful lives. Jesus said that he came to heal the sinner. He did not come to heal the righteous. However, the Bible says that all people have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. So, what Jesus is saying is that He came to heal those who know and acknowledge they are sinners.
So then, how can people identify the sins in their lives? There is only one way. They must read the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible clearly identifies sinful behavior so that people can turn from sin. However, they must believe that the Bible is the Truth. They must believe in Jesus who is the Savior of mankind. Only then, can people be freed of bondage to their sins. Only then can they be healed.
