This Proverb says, “Know well the condition of your flocks, and pay attention to your herds; For riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations.” In ancient Israel, people were dependent on herds of animals.
Animals provided food and clothing for families. They were necessary for a family to survive. This Proverb says that people should know the condition of their flocks so that families could survive and thrive. However, we don’t need herds and flocks of animals today.
Our family’s well-being is sustained in other ways. As leader of a household a father should take special care of his wife and children. He should provide food and shelter and care for them. He should also be in tune with the needs of his wife and children. Additionally, a family’s needs change as the children grow.
A father who prioritizes career ambitions at the expense of his family may not realize his family’s changing needs. As a result his family may suffer. Therefore, a father must seek balance in his career and family care. Otherwise, things may progress from bad to worse for the family. The bottom line is that a father’s care for his family is far more important than career and success.
