This Proverb says, “Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit.” In Biblical days, a city without walls was vulnerable to plunder and destruction. Enemy forces had ready access and could easily overpower a city.

In like manner, a person who has no control over his spirit is vulnerable to Satan and his evil forces. God’s Holy Spirit is absent. Therefore, that person has no defense against evil. Being vulnerable to evil will lead to spiritual destruction and death.

How does a person gain control of their spirit? The Bible says that when a person believes in Jesus, God gives them His Holy Spirit to live within them. God’s Holy Spirit is more powerful than Satan. Therefore, evil forces cannot overpower that person.

One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is self-control. When a person has self-control, they can resist evil and control their thoughts, words and deeds.

Therefore, having God’s Holy Spirit in our lives is like having a strong spiritual wall. God’s strong wall will give us spiritual protection and enable us to walk the pathway of life to Heaven.
