This Proverb says, “Go to the ant, O sluggard and observe her ways and be wise, which having no chief, officer or ruler, prepares her food in the summer and gathers her provision in the harvest. How long will you lie down, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?” A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and your poverty will come in like a vagabond, and your need like an armed man.”
What is a sluggard? A sluggard is a habitually lazy person. Such a person is unmotivated to spend their time in a constructive way. A sluggard is content to do nothing. In today’s world this may describe those who spend an inordinate amount of time watching movies or playing video games.
The Bible says that God does not want us to be lazy. He wants us to be productive. He wants us to provide for the needs of ourselves and our families. And He wants us to perform our tasks with diligence. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.”
We should know that God observes us and take note of how we conduct our lives. He also weighs how well we perform the tasks that He sets before us.
The bottom line is that God does not want us to be lazy. Being lazy will result in bad things in our lives. We may end up without food and shelter. We may become homeless and a burden to others. The Bible says that God will judge us for how well we lived our lives. That may not turn out so well for us if we were lazy and unproductive during our lives.
