This Proverb says, “Prepare your work outside, and make it ready for yourself in the field. Afterwards, then, build your house.” During the time this Proverb was written, people survived by growing crops and raising animals. They were farmers, and their food came from the land. Cultivating the land and planting crops was more important than building a house. People would live in temporary shelters until their food source was secure. When people properly prioritized things they ensured their survival.
During our lives here on Earth we, too, need to learn how to prioritize. We need to take care of needs first. Then we can satisfy our wants and desires. This seems like an obvious priority scheme. However, there are some people who do not establish the right priorities in their lives. They satisfy their desires before they take care of their needs.
Those who do not prioritize their needs before satisfying their desires will go hungry. They may become homeless and have to beg for their food. We see this happening in America today. Many are homeless and hungry because they have turned to drugs and alcohol to satisfy their desires. This is a tragic situation; and it is growing worse.
Those who are addicted to drugs become enslaved to drug use. They are in bondage and cannot break free. However, there is a way to break free. Jesus Christ is that way.
If you are one of these unfortunate souls who have been enslaved by drugs, call out to Jesus for help. Simply say, “Lord Jesus please help me.” Jesus will hear a genuine plea for help, and He will respond. Trust Jesus even when it seems to be hopeless. He is the only hope for you. Indeed He is the only hope for the entire world.
