This Proverb says, “Reprove one who has understanding and he will gain knowledge.” a person with understanding knows the right way to behave. However, sometimes even a person who understands the right way to behave will depart from doing what is right. When God disciplines such a person, that person will turn back to doing that which is right. This is because that person understands the linkage between their sin and the discipline they received.
On the other hand, those without understanding do not perceive the linkage between their sins and God’s discipline. Such people will not turn from sin. They do not want to turn from sin, because they are actually in bondage to sin.
Prior to Jesus coming to the Earth all of mankind was in bondage to sin. They could not change their ways. They did not want to change their ways. However, God still loved mankind who He created. So, He provided a way for mankind to break free of sin. Jesus is that way.
The Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Jesus was sacrificed for the sins of mankind. Those who believe in Jesus are freed of their bondage to sin. They are then able to turn away from sin
