These passages contain two distinct Proverbs. The first Proverb says, “Laziness cast into a deep sleep, and an idle man will suffer hunger.” As this Proverb says, laziness and idleness are not good things. God didn’t put us on this Earth to sleep. We were all made for a purpose and should be active.
There is a direct connection between poverty and laziness. Lazy people don’t seek or try to get employment. Employment is necessary to get our basic needs: food, shelter, and water. Without these things, a lazy person will indeed experience hunger.
The second Proverb says, “He who keeps the commandment keeps his good, but he who is careless of his ways will die.” The Bible says that obeying God is necessary to our eternal security.
There is a direct linkage between obeying God’s Commandments and living a blessed life here on the Earth. There is also a direct link between obeying God’s Commandments and being allowed into Heaven after we die.
Each of us has a choice of the path we will walk during our time here on the Earth. One path will lead to Heaven. The other paths lead to Hell. Each of us must make a conscious choice. I know the path I choose. I choose the path that leads to Heaven.
