This Proverb says, “The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” When seeking advice it is always best to get advice that is in accordance with the Bible. A righteous person will give the best advice because this person believes in God and lives according to God’s Word, the Bible.

On the other hand, a wicked person’s advice will be bad. Following the advice of a wicked person will have bad or disastrous results. Such advice is foolish because it is not grounded in God’s Word. One example of bad advice is advising a person to cheat on their taxes. Another example is advising a person to get a divorce for non-biblical reasons.

So then, how can we discern whether the person offering advice to us is righteous or wicked? It is not easy because there are wicked people who appear to be righteous. However, if we believe in God and follow His Word, God will give us the ability to discern.

We can observe how a person responds to situations that they encounter. We can listen carefully to their opinions on things that happen in the world. Being aware of their worldview is quite revealing as to their true character.

Therefore, we should become well-grounded in God’s Word. We should read and study the Bible daily. Then we will know the Truth. Then we will be able to discern which advice is good and which advice is bad.
