This Proverb says, “Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the lazy one to those who send him.”

A lazy person is one who is unreliable in completing tasks, even simple ones. They are also disrespectful to their employers. Those who employ such people are continually exasperated with such a person.

The Bible indicates that God does not want His people to be lazy. Rather, God wants us to be diligent and give our best effort to the task at hand. The Bible says, “Whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord.”

God also wants us to complete our tasks. Doing a good job with our tasks also means that we will complete the task. We will see it through to the end. Knowing that God is measuring our performance and our dedication to the task at hand will motivate us to do so. We certainly don’t want to be like “vinegar to God’s teeth and smoke to God’s eyes.”
