This Proverb says, “The rich man’s wealth is his fortress, the ruin of the poor is their poverty. The wages of the righteous is life, the income of the wicked, punishment.” This Proverb recognizes the reality of life being wealthy and life being poor. While money cannot buy happiness, having money enables a person to have shelter and food. Whereas, being poor makes it more difficult to physically survive.
However, having wealth does not ensure a person’s spiritual survival. Nor does being poor prevent a person from having spiritual life. The key to having spiritual life is to live rightly before God. This means living according to the Word of God, the Bible. If we commit our lives to living according to the Bible’s guidance, God will grant us life. As the Proverb says, ‘The wages of the righteous is life.’
On the other hand, a person who rejects God’s guidance and refuses to live according to the Word of God will reap spiritual death. The Bible clearly says, “The wages of sin is death.” The Bible also says that a person who is spiritually dead when they die will spend eternity in Hell’s misery.
Therefore, whether we are poor or rich, we must believe in God and live according to God’s Word, if we want spiritual life. The Bible says that if we are spiritually alive when we die, we will be allowed into Heaven.
