In this daily Bible reading is the account of three Levites leading a rebellion against Moses and Aaron: Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. These men believed that they were just as capable as Moses and Aaron to lead Israel. They were also angry that they were to wander for 40 more years in the wilderness and die; not reaching the promised land. They wanted to lead Israel back to Egypt where they had lived comfortably.

Their rebellion angered God, and God dealt with them harshly. Moses assembled Israel and had them stand away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Then, God opened the ground beneath their tents. These men and their families descended alive into the depths of the Earth. God then consumed with fire the 250 men who followed  Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

God had affirmed His selection of Moses to lead Israel to the promised land. Throughout the years, God has selected certain people to be His instruments to do His will and accomplish His purposes. God protects His chosen instruments so they may accomplish what He wants of them. Once they have served His purposes, I believe God brings them to their Heavenly home to be with Him.
