In this daily Bible reading is the account of Samuel anointing Saul to be Israel’s first king. Saul was accepted by the people to be their king, largely because of his appearance. He was very tall and handsome. With God’s help, Saul led Israel in successful battles. Later we see that Saul did not remain dedicated to God and was removed as King.

Saul became the people’s choice, but he did not remain as God’s choice. We see similarities in America. I believe that some of America’s recent presidents were elected largely because of their appearance. However, I do not think that they believed in or followed the Bible in their decision-making.  For example, some supported abortion. Some supported homosexual behavior. The Bible forbids both.

The Bible says that a country’s leader is reflective of the people. If the people are not aligned with God, their leader will also not be aligned with God.
