This Psalm contains words that are encouraging for older people. It says, “The righteous man will flourish like a palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age. They shall be full of sap and very green, to declare that the Lord is upright.”
Living one’s life according to God’s Word, the Bible, produces good health and strength. One has fewer injuries and diseases and can therefore stay physically fit. The Bible says, “Those that trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will rise up on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not grow tired.”
The effects of aging will still occur. However, they seem to be delayed. Living one’s life trusting God produces a richer and fuller life. Trials may still occur. However, relying on God’s help reduces anxiety during those trials.
Being healthy, fit, and active in our later years is certainly a good thing. More importantly, living one’s life according to God’s Word will lead one to Heaven.
