In these passages the writer speaks of God choosing the tribe of Judah from all the tribes of Israel. It was in the land of Judah that God placed His structure, the Temple. God also chose David from the tribe of Judah to be King of Israel.
David was a shepherd when God selected him to one day become King. The characteristics of a shepherd were the characteristics that God wanted in his King. David was characterized by integrity and compassion. The Bible says that God considered David as a man after God’s own heart.
Jesus also was and is a man after God’s own heart. Jesus is also in the lineage of Judah. David was Jesus’ human relative.
Jesus will one day rule as King of Israel and of the entire Earth. Jesus considers the people He leads to be His ‘sheep.’ He will rule with kindness and compassion. His integrity and leadership abilities are unmatched.
Most importantly, Jesus is also God’s only begotten Son. Jesus existed with God before Jesus became man. Jesus is God, the Son. He will represent God the Father well as King of the Earth.
