In this Psalm the writer speaks of Israel turning from God. They had forgotten the miraculous deeds that God did for Israel in Egypt. They turned to their natural sinful desires. The writer says, “For their heart was not steadfast toward Him. Nor were they faithful in His covenant.” In other words, Israel did not have the motivation to continue in obedience to God’s commandments. So, God punished Israel in order to reestablish that motivation.

The Bible says that we must believe in and trust in Jesus in order to be saved from God’s condemnation of sin. However, this belief must not be only for a moment. It must be sustained for a lifetime.

Our belief in Jesus is evidenced by living our lives according to the Word of God, the Bible. However, our natural tendency is to give ourselves over to sin for momentary pleasure in our lives. Living our lives according to the Bible means that we must turn from sin.

Prior to believing in Jesus we cannot reject sin in our lives. We are in bondage to sin.  Belief in Jesus enables us to turn away from sin. However, it takes effort. It takes motivation. We must truly be steadfast in our belief to succeed.
