In this Psalm Asaph speaks of God’s apparent rejection of Israel. He wonders if God’s favor will ever return to Israel. Asaph writes, “Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again? Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever?”
However, Asaph retains his hope in God when Asaph ponders and meditates on what God has done for Israel in the past. He also has hope when he meditates on God’s presence around him, as evidenced by God’s marvelous creation.
In like fashion meditation can be good for us as well. When we are in situations that are painful and challenging, we can be comforted if we quietly think about God. Meditating on God’s goodness and God’s accomplishments gives us hope for our future.
When we realize that God created everything and created each of us, we are encouraged. We realize that God has a purpose for us, and that His purpose for us will be realized.
Trusting and having God in our hearts is comforting and nourishing for our souls. Troubles are diminished and hope is restored in our lives.
