In this Psalm the writer, Asaph, is in despair. The Temple in Jerusalem had been destroyed, and it appeared that God had abandoned Israel. There were no longer any Prophets who spoke the Truth. There were no longer any Prophets who spoke God’s words to the people. Evil and decadence had overtaken Israel. Goodness and Truth had been removed from the land.
The standards of evil and lies had been established. The people were no longer being taught the Truth. They no longer had good guidance. So, Asaph pleaded with God to destroy the evil and restore the good.
The condition that Asaph was experiencing is much like the condition in America and the world in general today. Truth and righteousness have been condemned. Evil and lies are the order of the day. Those who speak out against evil and speak the Truth are isolated.
However, the Bible says that God will destroy the evil and restore His Truth. Jesus will return soon and accomplish God’s will. Jesus will personally destroy evil and restore goodness and righteousness to the Earth.
