In this Psalm David says, “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the sustainer of my soul.” All of us have a soul. We also have a body and mind. The Bible says that our bodies will waste away as we age. Our bodies are temporary. However, our soul is eternal. Our soul defines who we are. Each soul is unique.

As we live our lives, we make choices. Our minds direct our bodies as to how we live our lives. How our minds direct our bodies determines the destination of our souls. The Bible says that there are two possible destinations for our souls. One destination is called Heaven. The other destination is called Hell. The Bible tells us how to use our minds and directing our bodies. If we follow the Bible’s guidance in directing our bodies, the likely destination of our soul will be Heaven. On the other hand, if our minds direct our bodies contrary to what the Bible teaches, the likely destination of our soul will be Hell.

When David says that God sustains his soul, David means that God will help those who believe in God, so that their souls will go to Heaven.
