In this Psalm David says the following thought-provoking words. “With reproof Thou dost chasten a man for iniquity; Thou dost consume as a moth what is precious to him.” This indicates to me that we may value some of our possessions too much. In these cases, our possessions may become more valuable to us than God. It can be said that we may worship our possessions.
The Bible says that we are not to prioritize any worldly possessions over our relationship with God. When we do that, our focus turns away from God. Our thoughts turn away from Him as well.
Today’s Psalm message indicates that God will ‘consume as a moth’ those things that take our focus away from Him. For example, if we value a new car too much it may be damaged or fail in some way. If we value money, it may be lost in foolish investments. Or, it may be stolen.
The Bible says that our real treasure is in Heaven. It is not here on Earth. Our Heavenly treasure will not be destroyed or consumed. It will exist forever.
