In this Psalm King David prays to God to keep David from falling into traps that evil men set for him. There were those who tried to entice David to do wicked and evil things. They wanted to destroy David’s credibility in worshiping God. David’s example of worshiping God influenced Israel to obey and be faithful to God. Satanic forces opposed this.

David was aware of these efforts to turn David away from God. So, David asked for God’s help in keeping David from evil pursuits. David said, “Do not incline my heart to any evil thing to practice deeds of wickedness with men who do iniquity.” David, like all of us, was susceptible to saying and doing sinful things.

Satan wants to turn us away from God. His methods are very deceptive and subtle. He knows our weaknesses and he will try to exploit them. He will orchestrate situations that will tempt us to fall into his traps.

Awareness of Satan’s methods is part of the battle. We cannot defend ourselves against Satan unless we are aware. The other part of our defense is the Word of God, the Bible. The Bible gives us specific direction and guidance to remain on the pathway that leads to Heaven. Therefore, we should read the Bible daily to be well armed against Satan’s ploys.
