In this Psalm King David speaks of God protecting the weak and the poor people. He says, “I know the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted and justice for the poor.” The Bible indicates that God favors those who are humble, and He rejects those who are prideful.

Jesus said in His ‘Sermon on the Mount,’ “Blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted. Blessed are those who are gentle for they shall inherit the Earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be satisfied.” Jesus was speaking of those who are poor spiritually rather than physically.

However, those who are physically poor and hungry are more likely to reach out and rely on God for help. Additionally, they are less likely to be filled with pride.

As Jesus said, Heaven will be filled with those who are humble here on the Earth. The Bible says that the prideful people will not be allowed into Heaven. Therefore, it is vital that we lose our pride and humbly seek God and His guidance for us.
