In this Psalm the writer speaks of the relationship between sowing and reaping. He writes, “Those who sow in tears will reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and for a weeping and carrying his bag of seed shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” The Bible speaks of sowing and reaping as it relates to crops. It also speaks of sowing and reaping as it relates to spiritual health.
Here is a Bible passage to contemplate: “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. For the one who sows to the flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap Eternal Life.” This means that following sinful pursuits to please the flesh will eventually lead to corruption of the flesh. It will also lead to spiritual destruction. Whereas, living one’s life according to the Word of God, the Bible, will lead to spiritual good health. Moreover, it will lead to Eternal Life. We must therefore resist the momentary pleasures of sin which destroy. Rather, we must deny our sinful pleasures and live rightly before God. Doing this will bring us life.
