This Psalm indicates that God will protect His own from evil. Evil prevails over the Earth. The Bible says that Satan, the father of evil, is the spiritual ruler of the Earth. He has free reign to influence mankind to turn away from God and become entangled in sin. Most people in the world follow Satan by giving themselves over to sin.
However, a few people have turned away from sin and follow Jesus Christ. They do not follow Satan. However, Satan still tries to influence them. He tempts God’s people to turn away from God. However, God will protect His people and keep them from turning to sin. This Psalm indicates this fact with the following passage: “The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul.” It also says, “He will not allow your foot to slip.”
When God’s people are tempted to sin, their conscience will urge them not to sin. God influences the conscience of those who are His to turn them away from the temptation to sin. However, if they do slip and sin, God gives them a feeling of guilt to prevent them from pursuing a sinful life. He also chastens his own to motivate them. Indeed, God will not allow His people to turn to evil.
