Psalm 119:105 is absolutely one of my favorite passages. It reads, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Word of God is a ‘lamp to my feet’ in that it illuminates the pathway of my life. I am then able to see obstacles that may cause me to fall.
Many situations will occur in our lives in which we must make choices. These situations may present obstacles that prevent us from remaining on the path of life. If we make our choices according to the Bible’s guidance, we will not stumble and fall. However, choosing contrary to what the Bible teaches may well cause us to stumble and fall. We may then be unable to proceed on the path that leads to Heaven.
The Word of God is also a ‘light to my path.’ It illuminates the path that leads to life. It shows us the way to go. With the light of God’s Word, we will know the path to take if we want to go to Heaven after we die. We will encounter many junctions or intersections along pathway in life. However, we cannot know the correct way to turn unless we make our choice in light of the Word of God, the Bible.
The Bible is therefore necessary to remain upright and successfully navigate the pathway that leads to Heaven.
