In this Psalm King David prophesies about the end times. The end times will be just prior to Jesus’ return to be King of the Earth. Jesus is the son of God who was born a human about 1000 years after King David lived. David is Jesus’ human ancestor.
However, in the Psalms David refers to Jesus as David’s Lord. David says, “The Lord says to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I make thine enemies a footstool for my feet.”
Prior to Jesus’ return to the Earth, God will destroy those who are steeped in sin; those who gave themselves over to sin. This will be the second time that God destroys all sinful people in the Earth. The first time it was the flood of Noah’s day. The next time God will destroy those given over to sin with war, famine, and pestilence. Only those deemed righteous in God’s eyes will survive.
When God destroyed the world with a flood, only Noah and Noah’s family was deemed to be righteous. The next time God destroys the world, only those who believe in Jesus will be deemed righteous. Therefore, believing in Jesus is essential to a person’s survival.
