This Psalm was written by King David. David speaks of the people that he would and would not allow to be around him to govern Israel. David was a man who walked rightly before God. The Bible says that God considered David to be ‘a man after God’s own heart.’ Therefore, the people that God favored were people that David favored. The people that God rejected were the people that David rejected.

David related a list of the characteristics of people he would reject. David said, “I hate the work of those who fall away. “A sinful heart shall depart from me.” “Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy.” “No one who has a haughty look and an arrogant heart I will endure.” “He who practices deceit shall not dwell within my house.” “He who speaks falsehood shall not maintain his position before me.”

As we examine this list of those who David and most likely God would reject, we should also examine ourselves. We should honestly appraise ourselves to see if any of these characteristics define us. If so, we should strive to turn away from those traits and become the people that God would favor and allow into Heaven.
