This Proverb is one of my very favorites. I keep it on my wall at home. It says, “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled with rare and pleasant riches.” This Proverb provides the formula for a successful marriage and home. I speak from the perspective of a husband and father. But it applies equally to a wife and mother.

Having wisdom is essential to making good decisions in a marriage and family. A husband and father should be wise in how he treats his family. He should not be hasty or careless with his words or actions. He should be thoughtful and carefully make his decisions, having good guidance for those decisions. Such guidance is found in the Word of God, the Bible.

The Bible says that husbands are to treat their wives in a selfless way. They are to sacrifice their own interests at times for their wives. The Bible also says that they are to treat their wives in an understanding manner. Husbands are not to become angry with their wives when their wives see things differently. Rather they are to be patient.

When a husband treats his wife with love and understanding, the results will be very good within the home. Indeed, the home will be filled with rare and pleasant riches.

When a husband sets a wise, loving, and caring example for his children, the children will also benefit. They will also learn how to be make solid decisions in their lives. They will become good spouses and parents. The legacy of building a home with wisdom and understanding will endure. More importantly, living in such a manner will put members of a family on the pathway to Heaven and eternal joy.
