This Proverb says, “The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels, and they go down inside the innermost parts of the body.” A whisperer is a person who gossips, a person who reveals secrets of others. The Bible condemns gossiping because it is so destructive. Gossiping harms others, as it damages reputations and separates friends.

The Bible says that gossip comes from a heart full of evil. Jesus said, “The good man brings things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings things out of the evil stored up in his heart.”

The danger with gossip is that it can be pleasing to our fallen nature. The sinful side of us wants to hear scandals about others. Unfortunately, once we hear the scandalous gossip we cannot forget it. It infects us and alters our opinion about the other person.

Therefore, our best defense against gossiping or hearing gossip is to refuse to listen to it. When another person starts to share a piece of gossip with us, we should tell them that we don’t want to hear it. That may appear to be rude. However, in the end it is the best counsel for a gossiper. It will contain the potential damage that can occur.

The Bible says that we will be accountable for the words we have spoken to others. The Bible also says that we should be careful how we listen. We should always seek to be filled with good things. Gossiping is not good.
