This Proverb says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries up the bones.”
Having joy or being joyful is good for a person’s health. Joy enhances both physical and mental health. On the other hand, a broken spirit or sorrow degrades one’s physical and mental health. Unfortunately, there are situations in a person’s life that produce sorrow and mental anguish. Death of a loved one or a broken relationship are examples of these situations.
Sorrow and anguish may indeed come our way on rare occasions. However, we must not sustain that anguish,. We must have a way to cope and return to normal living.
The best way to cope is to have a foundation of joy in our life. If we have such a foundation, we will be able to cope with sorrow and recover a good outlook on life.
How then can we have a foundation of joy in our life? There is only one way to have such joy within us. That way is through our belief in God and Jesus Christ. When we have that belief, we will also have God’s Holy Spirit within us. We will have that foundation of joy.
When we have God’s Holy Spirit within us, we will be motivated to read God’s Word. As a result, we will learn scripture passages that help us through difficult times. Additionally, we will put our trust in God and have faith that He will guide us and protect us.
Sorrow will not overcome us, because joy from God is more powerful. We will have peace in our lives that surpasses all understanding. More importantly we will walk the pathway that will lead us to Heaven after we die.
