These passages say, “A righteous man hates falsehood, but a wicked man acts disgustingly and shamefully. Righteousness guards the one whose way is blameless, but wickedness subverts the sinner.”

A righteous person hates lying and falsehood. Their life is characterized by always being truthful and honest. Such a person will tell the truth, even when the truth will place them at a disadvantage in the near term. However, always telling the truth will serve them well in the long term. Living a truthful life will please God. The Bible says that God will bless such a person.

However, a wicked person is not constrained by telling the truth. Such a person sees no wrong in telling lies for personal gain. A wicked person may think their lying will serve them well. However, the Bible says that such a person is destined for pain and destruction. A wicked person’s lies will subvert them in ways they may not see. Their reputation for lying will grow and place them at a disadvantage in their workplace and social life. Ultimately their lies will destroy them.

On the other hand, a righteous person will enjoy God’s protection during their life on Earth. They will have a good reputation as being reliable and trustworthy. Opportunities will come their way. More importantly, they will be on the pathway that leads to Heaven. Honesty is truly the best policy.
