This Proverb says, “He who winks the eye causes trouble, and a babbling fool will be thrown down.” As humans, we communicate to others in many ways. Most communication is verbal. However, there are many nonverbal ways to communicate.

Much unspoken communication is done with our facial expressions, especially our eyes. Our eyes can display affection, hate, anger, joy, excitement, and boredom to name a few.

Our eyes can also be used in planning dishonest things. For example, a wink to an accomplice in an evil plot indicates false words spoken to the intended victim. Such communication can cause much damage and harm.

The Bible says that our eyes are windows to our soul. Our eyes can indicate light from a good soul. They can also reveal evil from a dark soul. Jesus told the people, “The eye is the lamp of the body.  If your eye is clean, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

Those who truly believe in Jesus will have much light within themselves because they live by the Word of God. They will be characterized by truth, honesty and integrity. They will walk in the light of Jesus Christ, rather than the darkness of evil. That is truly the right way to live, and it will lead true believers to eternal joy in Heaven.
