In this daily Bible reading the prophet, Nahum prophesies about the future judgment of Nineveh, the capital of Assyria. God used Assyria to punish the 10 northern tribes of Israel for their wickedness and for turning away from God. Assyria was a brutal nation that had conquered many other nations. It was very brutal during conquests. Assyria was a nation that worshiped demons and did not know or respect God. However, God used Assyria for His purposes. Now, God was planning to destroy Assyria for their brutality and wickedness.
The Bible says that “God is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.” It may take years or decades, but whatever a person or nation sows, that person or nation will reap.
Sometimes there is a lengthy period between committing a sin and receiving punishment. Because of this a person may not perceive the linkage between the sin and the punishment. But the linkage is there. Many are afflicted today with diseases and hardships. According to the Bible these diseases and hardships are because of sin in these peoples’ lives. If these people do not repent and turn from sin, they will be doomed to spend eternity in Hell after they die.
