In this daily Bible reading the Prophet Micah prophesies about God’s impending judgments: both on the northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. Micah’s words largely fell on deaf ears because both nations were living in prosperity at the time.

Israel was sinning greatly under King Ahab and his Queen Jezebel. Israel was worshiping idols and had many priests of the demon, Baal. Judah was not quite as bad. Judah was still worshiping the true God in Jerusalem, going through religious rituals. However, the people in both nations were not living their lives according to God’s instructions for them. They were characterized as liars, cheaters, and thieves, focused on selfish gain at the expense of others. However, there was a remnant of people who remained true to God.

America today is similar to ancient Israel and Judah. Many are living in sin and want nothing to do with God. Many are religious and going through religious rituals, but their hearts are not dedicated to God. However, there are also a few who are true to God in their hearts and to live their lives in obedience to God.

Just as God judged Israel and Judah with destruction and death, He will one day judge America with destruction and death. Our only protection from this final judgment is to live according to the Word of God, the Bible.
