In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus’ final supper with His disciples the night before He was crucified. During the supper, Jesus equated the wine to His blood which would be shed to atone for the sins of mankind. Bible says that ‘without the shedding of blood there can be no forgiveness for sins.’ This necessity is a mystery to me, but it is God’s requirement. Therefore, I accept it. However, the good news is that this requirement was fulfilled or finished in Jesus Christ.
Jesus’ shed blood on a Roman cross covered our sins, if we believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ death will atone for our sins. However, it is conditional on our believing in Him. His shed blood will not atone for the sins of those who reject Him. The Bible says that non-believers will die in their sins. They will be sent to a place of torment and agony after they die.
Believing in Jesus is more than an intellectual assent of who He is. The demons or fallen angels acknowledge that Jesus is the Son of God, but they will not go to Heaven. Saving belief in Jesus is evidenced by trusting in Him and living our lives according to His guidance. We therefore must read the Bible to know how Jesus wants us to live. Then, and only then, will we know how to follow the path that leads to Heaven.
