In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus’ activities with His disciples in the final two days prior to His crucifixion. Two nights prior to His crucifixion He and His disciples ate dinner in the home of Simon the leper in Bethany, which is just east of the Mount of Olives.

During the meal, a lady poured an expensive vial of perfume over Jesus’ head. Some of his disciples were not pleased and suggested that the perfume was wasted. It could have been sold for a lot of money and the money given to the poor.

The Bible says that the disciple, Judas, who later betrayed Jesus criticized the woman who poured the perfume on Jesus. Judas did not truly believe in Jesus.

After this event, Judas went to the chief priests and told them that he would turn Jesus over to them at an opportune time. The chief priests were pleased and gave Judas money to betray Jesus.

The next night Jesus and His disciples ate the Passover meal together. During dinner, Jesus told them that one of the disciples would betray Jesus. Jesus, being deity, knew that Judas would betray Him.

Jesus also knew that God had orchestrated all events leading to Jesus’ death. Judas was a necessary element to Jesus’s crucifixion. However, Judas would suffer greatly for betraying Jesus.
