In this daily Bible reading is the beginning of Jesus’ sermon on the mount. Jesus’ message was one of humility and peace. Jesus also said, His followers were to treat people with kindness and generosity. Further, His followers were not to seek for riches and success. Their primary focus was to be obedience to God.

The Bible says, “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and the rest will be given you as well.” We must adapt to our earthly environment. However, our desire must be to display our love for God by the lives we lead. The most important commandment in the Bible is to ‘Love God with all our heart, with all our soul and with all our mind.’  Our love for God will be validated by our lives.

Accordingly, we must walk rightly before God. This may at times be difficult, but we should always strive to do what is right. Walking rightly before God will result in blessings in this life and hopefully, entry into Heaven after we die.

The Bible also says that we are to “Love our neighbors as ourselves.” This means that we must strive to  turn away  from being selfish.  We must not ignore the needs of others around us.  I believe God brings people into our lives who have needs and problems that we can help to solve.  We must not avoid those situations.  Rather, we should embrace these opportunities to help.

Our lives will be much richer and fuller if we follow Jesus’ guidance for us.  More importantly, we will remain on the pathway that leads to  Heaven.
