In this daily Bible reading is the account of two disciples meeting the resurrected Jesus on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They did not recognize Jesus. As they walked, Jesus told them scriptures that spoke of Him.
Jesus then ate dinner with these disciples. When Jesus broke the bread and gave it to them, their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him. Later, when Jesus appeared to the 11 disciples, He “opened their minds to understand the Scriptures about Him.”
The Word of God is a gift that God has given to us. The world does not understand the Truths in the Bible that speak to believers. A person cannot understand the Bible unless they first believes the Bible to be true.
The Bible says that a person cannot believe in Jesus unless God enables them to believe. The Bible also says that a person cannot even repent of sins unless God grants them repentance. A person should feel blessed if God has granted them repentance and drawn them to believe in Jesus. However, they must persevere in their belief if they want to be allowed into Heaven. The Bible says, “Many are called, but few are chosen.”
