In this daily Bible reading is the account of Jesus dying on the cross at about 3 PM on Friday, the day before the Sabbath. He was taken down from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and placed in a tomb.
On Sunday, the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene, Joanna, and Mary the mother of James went to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with spices. However, Jesus was gone. Two angels appeared and told them that Jesus had risen. The women remembered Jesus’ words which prophesied this event and told the disciples.
Amazingly the women’s story appeared to the disciples as nonsense. They evidently did not listen to Jesus or did not believe what He said to them. They were with Jesus and saw His miracles. However, they seem to have been blinded to the Truth and lacked understanding.
We, too, lack understanding unless and until we believe in Jesus Christ, who is the living Word of God. Once we believe, we will then be granted knowledge and understanding through God’s Word, the Bible.
