In these passages is the account of Jesus and his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane before Jesus was arrested. Jesus said to His disciples twice, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” Temptation is a powerful force that pulls us away from God and motivates us to sin. Satan rules this world and provides the temptations.

The Bible says, “With each temptation God provides a means of escape.” However, we must seek that escape and act on it. It is difficult because our flesh wants to pursue the temptation. However, our will to resist must prevail.

To that end believers are provided ‘self-control,’ one of the ‘Fruits of the Holy Spirit.’ Therefore, we are able to resist the temptation if we choose to do so. That choice is still difficult, even for believers. However, when we sincerely make that choice, the temptation rapidly disappears.
