In this daily Bible reading are God’s instructions for the burnt offerings, sin offerings, guilt offerings, and peace offerings. One example is given for offenses that require a guilt offering to be made. That is the case of extortion or robbery. A person who robbed another was to restore what he robbed and add to it another 20%. He was then to offer a male goat from his flock for a guilt offering. So, in addition to doing a guilt offering, a person was to make the wrong right. It was to cost him more than he took.
God’s laws provided real motivation for people to avoid breaking them. Today we see diminished motivation because of reduced consequences. Many criminals are set free because of technicalities. In other cases punishment is minimal. As a result, crime increases.
The Bible says that Jesus will one day return to be King of the Earth. The Bible also says that Jesus will ‘rule with a rod of iron.’ In Jesus’ Kingdom, lawlessness will not be tolerated. Law abiding citizens will live in peace and safety. The Earth with be a great place to live.
