In this daily Bible reading Jeremiah describes the condition of the people who were under siege in Jerusalem and of those who lived in the land of Judah surrounding Jerusalem. Their condition was horrible. The Babylonians had already destroyed the people in Judah. The Babylonians had killed the men, raped women, and tortured the princes of the land before killing them. They had destroyed all of the fortified cities and were intent on destroying Jerusalem, the remaining fortified city. The people in Jerusalem we’re dying of diseases and starving to death. The once dignified and a beautiful women were wasting away from famine, and their appearance was horrible. Women were boiling and eating their babies. Civilization had collapsed.

The Bible says that the same fate will befall America and the entire world in the final 3 1/2 years before Jesus Christ returns to rule the Earth. More than half of the Earth’s population will be killed. They will be killed because of their sins against God. The Bible describes God’s punishment of various populations in the past for their sins. The annihilation of Sodom and Gomorrah is a good example of God destroying a people for giving themselves over to sin.

Soon the world will be punished in a similar way to Sodom and Gomorrah. Who will survive? Not many. Even many who are dedicated to God will be killed. However, the Bible says we will all exist throughout eternity, even after we die. Those who have turned away from God will experience an eternity of torment and pain. Those who believed in Jesus will experience eternity in paradise. Which will you choose?
