In these passages Jesus tells the Jews, “If you abide in My Word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; and you shall know the Truth, and the Truth shall make you free.” We are all slaves to sin in our life until we believe in Jesus Christ. Prior to believing in Jesus, we cannot break free of sin. Only our belief in Jesus enables us to break free of sin.
Abiding in the Word of God is essential to a meaningful belief in Jesus. The Bible says that Jesus is the Word of God. The Word of God illuminates things that will harm us spiritually. It also gives us specific guidance on how to avoid those spiritual dangers. The Bible says, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Therefore, I must abide in the Word of God daily to remain on the pathway to Salvation.
