In these passages, Jesus speaks to the people in Capernaum. The people were demanding a miraculous sign from Jesus before they would believe Him. The people had just witnessed Jesus perform a miracle in feeding 5000 people from a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish. Yet, they still would not believe Him.
Jesus then said to them that He is the ‘Bread of Life.’ Those who believe in Him will be given ‘spiritual bread.’ Physical bread gives physical life which will end. Jesus’ bread gives spiritual life which will last forever.
Today this spiritual bread comes to us in the form of the Word of God, the Bible. We are spiritually nourished by it when we read and study the Bible. It becomes for us our daily bread, our spiritual food.
The Bible says, “Thy Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” The Bible will sustain us and it will guide us.
